European Standards Footwear Classification
All Briggs safety footwear conforms to European Standard EN345. The standard has a serious of classifications based on the level of protection offered by the footwear.

The table below explains the scheme's classification in detail.
CLASSIFICATION APPLICATION / BENEFIT
SB Basic safety protection. 200 joule.
Provides protection for toes against crushing etc.
S1 200 joule toecap protection. Closed seat region (fully enclosed heel). Antistatic properties. Energy absorption of seat region. Cleated outsole.
As SB plus these features; Energy absorption reduces fatigue and improves comfort.
S2 200 joule toecap protection. Closed seat region (fully enclosed heel). Antistatic properties. Energy absorption of seat region. Plus water penetration and water absorption resistance. Cleated outsole.
As S1 plus these features; Water resistant leather uppers repels water splashes keeping feet dry in poor weather or damp working conditions.
S3 200 joule toecap protection. Closed seat region (fully enclosed heel). Antistatic properties. Energy absorption of seat region. Water penetration and water absorption resistance. Plus penetration resistance. Cleated outsole.
As S2 plus these features; Penetrative resistance plate in sole of footwear for use on building sites or smiliar where sharp objects may penetrate through the outsole.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY FEATURES
Should these products offer some extra protective feature, then the appropriate symbol will be added.
P Penetration resistance offered by a steel midsole: 1100 Newtons.
C Conductive footwear.
A Antistatic footwear. Range from 100k to 1000m
HI Insulation against heat.
CI Insulation against cold.
E Heel energy absorption: 20 joules.
WRU Water penetration and water absorption resistant uppers.
HRO Resistance to hot contact up to 300ºC.
ESD Electro-static Discharge.
